Founded by vegans, Folly Wildlife Rescue in Kent has grown rapidly to become one of the most successful and respected organisations in the country for rescuing and rehabilitating injured and sick wild animals. With its purpose-built premises and full-time vet on site, Folly takes in animals from all over the South East of England and has an exceptional record in treating and returning them to the wild.

Folly also has a team of voluntary speakers who visit schools to encourage students to empathise with and give practical help to animals. The new educational booklet we are sponsoring will be available to assist this network of school speakers and to distribute to students after talks. As well as classroom activities, it will include everything from a guide to creating a wildlife garden to a recipe for vegan brownies!

Folly was also the beneficiary of our first ever award – in the early days of the Living Without Cruelty Trust – when we sponsored the building of a holding aviary where birds recovering from treatment can learn to fly strongly again before being released back into the wild.

Remembering Ann Harriman
While this wildlife venture is a bit of a departure from our other projects to date, it has been chosen specifically as a tribute to Ann Harriman, for many years Education Officer at Animal Aid. When she died in 2017, Ann left a financial legacy that we wanted to mark by funding a scheme that is particularly appropriate to her great passion in life – encouraging young people to respect and help non-human animals. She was also a great friend and admirer of Folly Wildlife Rescue and had personally taken injured wild animals there over the years.
